My Final Thoughts

We sang this song when I was a high school senior at Biloxi High School in 1932. All of us, freshmen to seniors, met each morning for chapel in the school auditorium where we recited the Lord's Prayer and sang this song. The days announcements and programs were announced during chapel. I later found out the song was written by a British soldier who had served in Spain during WWI where he met a beautiful lady he planned to marry but was not allowed to return to Spain. We also sang the Chinese song "On the Road to Mandalay." It begins "On the road to Mandalay, where the flying fishes play, where dawn comes up like thunder, China across the bay." These songs I will always remember.
